The Arts, Humanities and Medicine Program (AHMP) is part of the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics (SCBE) at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The Program encourages the exploration and development of our understanding of the intersections between medicine/bioscience and the arts, humanities, and social sciences, such as medical anthropology. The Program has educational, outreach and scholarly missions and interacts with other programs, departments and institutions at Stanford and outside of Stanford which involve various aspects of health and medical humanities. This is a benefits-eligible 75% FTE fixed-term position (5/31/16 anticipated end date).
The AHMP Coordinator will administer the Program, coordinate event, course, workshop and other activities, work closely with the AHMP Director and steering committee on program development, liaison building and funding opportunities, and represent the Program at meetings and outreach efforts. Events for AHMP include an annual spring symposium at the medical school, numerous writing and other workshops, and public events including music and medicine events and art exhibits. Besides major administrative work for the Program, this position also requires an understanding of researching grant possibilities and pursuing promising options with grant writing. The job also includes coordinating publicity materials, including web and other media. The AHMP Director may also delegate additional duties as needed.
Required: Applicants for this position must have a two-year college degree with an emphasis in the sciences or humanities, a BA/BS preferred (biology, human biology, psychology, medical anthropology, medical humanities, or liberal arts). A minimum of one year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate an understanding of the importance of, and interest in, cross-disciplinary work. Must have exposure to educational program coordination, and demonstrate the ability to work with all levels of staff, faculty and students. Must have experience setting and ensuring deadlines (both short and long term) are met.
In addition, this position requires the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships in all aspects of administrative support. Must have the demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities independently and understand how decisions made in the short term affect long term initiatives, as well as the ability to identify and handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy. Must be able to clearly convey information in English, verbally and in writing.
Must understand the importance of providing error-free work with an exacting attention to detail. Must also possess good knowledge of common PC/Mac programs, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new software programs. Computer programs utilized in carrying out Program Coordinator duties include MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Pubmed.
Desired: Web experience preferred, as well as experience working in an academic environment. Exposure to grant writing proposals. |
